Flight is a gift given to many insects, and thanks to their wings they have conquered much of the planet's environment. But what are the reasons for their biological success in the animal world? Some are aggressive, while others have fragile bodies with delicate wings. Their amazing colours and behaviors make up a world that we want to capture before it disappears forever. This stunning mini-series brings us closer to these natural marvels and shows just how unique and beautiful the creatures of the sky truly are.

This exploration is a one-of-a-kind look at Antarctica from a unique perspective - sea level. The crew explores the Antarctic Peninsula for six weeks by sea kayak, sailboat, foot and small plane, observing the fast changing evolution of this most remote place. Impacted by climate change - temperatures have warmed along the Peninsula faster than anywhere on the planet during the past 50 years - this part of Antarctica is also experiencing a boom in tourism and nations fighting over who owns what as its ice slowly disappears.

The Cape of Storms: here in the far south of Africa powerful currents meet and mingle - the cold, high-nutrient Benguela Current from the south and the Agulhas Current from the north. The interplay of these currents leads to an enormous abundance and diversity of nutrition. Once a year this attracts millions of sardines in the "Sardine Run", the largest migration of animals in the world. No wonder that some of the most impressive marine hunters live here. The film focuses on three particularly typical hunters of this region: the white shark, the fur seal and the cape gannet. The fates of these hunters are closely connected; as young animals they are often already involved in fights for life or death. The film observes these animals for a year, and in unusual and fascinating pictures it documents the rearing of their young and the application of their exceptional hunting techniques. "Hunters at the Cape of Storms" is no film for anyone with weak nerves. Even though it deliberately refrained from over-dramatisation, it shows nature as it is: beautiful, but also brutal.

Through spectacular natural examples we will discover how evolution has been complicating the rules of the game of life. Plants and animals from the five continents will show us some of the tricks that have allowed them to surpass the trials of this game; from the simple jellyfishes to the social elephants; from the scarce Sumatran rhinoceroses to the intelligent orang-utans; from the carnivorous plants to our own species: man.

For many years, biologist Phil Sammet has been observing the Californian squid and has made some surprising discoveries... Once a year, on one particular night during full moon, the Californian squid from the eastern Pacific come in to the shallow waters around the coast to spawn. At the same time the Chokka-squid come to False Bay in South Africa to spawn. In answer to a genetically triggered, deep-seated urge, they come in their millions to mate. Their predators are well aware of this meeting, so at the same time, blue sharks, angel sharks, guitarfish and various types of will all come to eat their fill.

Follows the extraordinary work of four veterinary practices as they battle to save the lives of animals. The vets are on call 24 hours per day, every day of the year. The series documents the triumphs and tragedies of these dedicated individuals who experience the joy of delivering youngsters as well as the pain of losing animals. No animals get turned away and as well as seeing large farm animals, the vets also care for cute domestic animals - where the bond between the owners and their pets can be closer than any other.

Every year from late March to early April, large migrating flocks of egrets and herons arrive in North East China from Japan to nest, mate and rear their young. This film is an in-depth lifecycle study of one group of these spectacular birds. Over the course of about 10 days, they settle into the canopy of a mountain forest, remaining there until autumn. More than one thousand egrets and herons become neighbours in this high-rise bird colony. The conditions are jam-packed and rival birds of both species cohabit in the trees but fight over the available nesting space while also trying to evade predators.

A baby elephant called Themba lost his mother after she fell down a cliff. He was rescued by the team at Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre and two years were dedicated to getting this special orphan back to the wild. It was to be an amazing journey. Themba befriended a very patient sheep named Albert, and together they formed a bond as strong as any human friendship. Albert gave a baby elephant the spirit to live, while Themba gave a seemingly ordinary sheep a feeling of purpose.

Presented by Kate Humble and Ben Fogle, the show covers everything from Lord Bath's many exploits - including parachuting with the Red Devils - to the conservation and running of the great Elizabethan house, and the lives of the 400 creatures in the safari park. Highlights include infra-red filming after dark to discover what the animals get up to, the birth of lion cubs and baby giraffes, and the arrival of three young white rhinos from South Africa to establish a breeding herd.

Shooting films in the Arctic is one of the most difficult endeavours in nature film production. For 4 months, cameraman Uwe Anders lived among polar bears, polar foxes and walruses. He found himself too close to comfort during a battle between musk oxen, and experienced just how adept arctic foxes are at stealing eggs. However, the late summer arrival of the polar bears was an absolute highlight. The film's breathtaking scenes and revealing interviews illustrate everyday life in the northern corner of the world and enables viewers to experience the work of an animal filmmaker first-hand. During his stay on Wrangel Island, Uwe Anders was treated to a piece of paradise, albeit an icy cold one.

We venture to Cape Aghulas, South Africa, to see how two sardine populations effect the rich and varied wildlife; in particular the gannet colony. In the west, the gannets and seals of Malgas Island compete with commercial fishing, causing their numbers to drop. Uniquely, gannets are underwater specialists, diving into the ocean at breakneck speed. Using stunning footage we study their incredible hunting skills and adaptability and bravery in this harsh, predator-rich environment. How long will it be before overfishing causes the ecosystem to fail? Can nature fight back?
